Causes of under-eye bags

Experts believe that a large part of the responsibility for the appearance of bags lies with the natural aging processes. The skin around the eyes gradually loses its elasticity, becoming thin and dry. This in turn causes any liquid to get retained in the area around the eyes, forming the so-called “bags”.

Another reason is genetics. The problem could be in an anatomical or genetic peculiarity of the structure of a person’s face, because of which similar changes in some people appear already at a young age.

A huge role is played by a person’s way of life. The swelling under the eyes appears due to the effect of various factors that are unfavorable to the skin: aggressive sunlight exposure, stress, sleep disturbance, improper skin care around the eyes, malnutrition, lack of physical activity and sedentary lifestyle. All this can lead to the appearance of dark circles and edema, with bags under the eyes to follow.

Often, the presence of bags under the eyes indicates a problem in the normal functioning of certain organs, such as the kidneys or the thyroid gland.

In the case of under-eye bags, consult a specialist for advice.

Lymph drainage and electrostimulation method

To date, the practice of using treatment devices for cosmetic procedures is widely used, as one of the ways to combat swelling and the appearance of under-eye bags. The most popular methods are electrostimulation and lymphatic drainage. The method consists of using thin electrodes, which with the help of low-frequency electric current stimulate the subcutaneous lymphatic pathways. After a course of such procedures, swelling is reduced significantly.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a surgical method of removing under-eye bags. It is also used to correct an impending upper or lower eyelid. The classic way provides for the removal of excess skin and subcutaneous tissue. The operation ends with the application of cosmetic sutures to the skin. Postoperative scars quickly resolve and remain invisible to others.

Swelling under the eyes – causes

The following scenarios may cause the swelling under the eyes to happen:

  1. Fluid retention. This phenomenon arises from the accumulation of fluid in the area around the eyes. The reason for this can be a large amount of fluids drunk before going to bed. Another reason can be eating high-salt-content food before bedtime. As a rule, within a few hours, the edema always subsides, while the liquid is reabsorbed by the body.
  2. Allergic reaction. This can be the body’s response to food, animal hair, dust or feathers of birds. Also, the cause of edema can be hormonal changes during menstruation.
  3. The natural process of aging. The skin around the eyes becomes thinner with age, losing elasticity.
  4. Diseases. Impaired thyroid or kidney function.

How to eliminate swelling

  1. Upon waking up, rinse your face with cool water, then rub the skin around your eyes with ice cubes. An excellent option – to freeze the decoction made of chamomile, calendula or sage.
  2. Regularly do exercises specifically for the eyes.
  3. Use grated raw potatoes. Apply the potato paste to your eyes for 15 minutes, then wipe the eyelids with a tonic.
  4. To reduce swelling, you can use a mask made of parsley. Fresh parsley should be chopped and applied to the skin around the eyes, after which it is necessary to squeeze all the liquids out of the chopped parsley with damp cotton pads for 10-15 minutes.
  5. An effective method against edemas can be a hot cloth made with a decoction of sage. To make such a hot cloth treatment, take 1 tablespoon of dry herb of sage, pour 0.5 cups of boiling water (90 degrees). It is necessary to leave it under a cover for about 3 hours. The decoction must be then filtered and divided into two identical parts. Heat the first part, and leave the second at room temperature. Wet the cotton disk in turns in warm and cold herbal decoction, applying to the area around the eyes.
